Why is it called an instant adhesive?
3M’s introduction to instant adhesives describes cyanoacrylates as one-part adhesives that react with moisture and are commonly used for small, close-fitting bonds. Fast handling is an important feature, but it does not mean every formulation reaches its final properties immediately.
When comparing samples, ask the supplier to distinguish fixture time from full cure time. Record the materials and conditions used in the test. A time printed for one grade should not be treated as a promise for a different product or application.
Liquid or gel: choose for the dispensing task
Start by describing how the adhesive will be applied. Does it need to flow into a closely fitted joint, or remain where it is placed? Is the user applying it to a small horizontal assembly or working on a vertical surface? These questions help narrow the viscosity requirement.

Material names are only the starting point
“Plastic” and “rubber” cover many materials. Send the exact material type where available, plus information about coatings and surface treatment. A successful trial on one item does not establish suitability for every item sold under the same broad material name.

What should a buyer request?
- The product code and technical data sheet for the offered grade.
- A current safety data sheet and label instructions.
- Pack size, nozzle and closure details.
- Storage conditions, unopened shelf life and batch identification.
- Samples with an agreed evaluation method.
Keep the sample result alongside the quotation so the final order refers to the same product and packaging. If you need branded retail packs, discuss OEM artwork and packaging after the adhesive requirement is clear.
