A useful super glue quality test answers a defined purchasing question: will the offered product and pack meet the intended requirement? Begin by agreeing that requirement with your supplier. A quick demonstration can be informative, but it is not a substitute for a documented sample assessment.
Identify every sample
Record the supplier, product code, batch reference, pack size and date received. Keep the technical and safety data sheets with the sample record. If two samples have different formulations or packaging, label them separately so the results do not get mixed.
Keep the test conditions consistent
Use representative materials from the intended application. Record the surface condition, preparation, adhesive amount, joint arrangement and evaluation timing. Follow the selected product’s instructions. Change one factor at a time when investigating a difference, otherwise it may be unclear which change affected the result.
Separate handling from final performance
Ask the supplier to define fixture time and full cure for the offered grade and test conditions. Decide when the sample will be handled and when it will be evaluated against the final requirement. Avoid comparing one freshly assembled sample with another that has had much longer to cure.
Agree measurable acceptance criteria
Describe the intended load, movement, environment and appearance. Agree an appropriate test method and pass criteria with the team responsible for the finished product. If a formal standard or independent laboratory test is needed, name the required method and scope in the purchase specification rather than relying on a general statement of “high quality.”
Inspect the complete pack
- Confirm net content and the method used to check it.
- Review the nozzle, cap, closure and any visible leakage.
- Check label readability, product identification and approved artwork.
- Compare retail and carton quantities with the written order.
Retain an approved reference pack. Agree which records or inspection results will be available for the production order and how a discrepancy should be reported.
